Not every windscreen problem needs a full replacement. If the glass itself is undamaged but you’re getting leaks, wind noise or a loose-feeling windscreen, a reseal might be all you need. Here’s how to tell the difference.

A reseal involves removing the trim around the windscreen, cleaning out the old, failed urethane adhesive, and applying a fresh bead to re-bond the glass to the frame. The glass itself stays in place – only the seal is renewed.
A replacement removes the entire windscreen and fits a new piece of glass, along with fresh adhesive and moulding. This is necessary when the glass is cracked, chipped in the driver’s line of sight, or too damaged to safely remain in the vehicle.
Water leaks after rain, whistling wind noise at speed, or a windscreen that feels slightly loose in its frame are all signs the seal has failed rather than the glass. If the glass has no cracks or chips, a reseal is usually the more cost-effective fix.
Any crack, a chip in the driver’s direct line of sight, or damage near the edge of the glass usually means replacement is the safer option. Edge damage in particular can compromise the windscreen’s structural strength, even if a reseal might otherwise look like it could help.

A reseal is generally a smaller job than a full replacement since the glass itself isn’t being replaced. The right choice depends on the actual condition of your windscreen – we’ll assess it and recommend the option that’s safe and cost-effective for your situation.
Most seal-related leaks can be resolved with a reseal, provided there’s no rust or structural damage to the frame underneath.
It’s usually quicker than a full replacement since there’s no glass to source or fit – ask us for a time estimate when you book.
