What Windscreen Repair Services Actually Include

What Windscreen Repair Services Actually Include

A windscreen repair service means resin injection into contained damage — not every kind of glass problem, and not a cosmetic restoration. Understanding what is included avoids the most common disappointment, which is expecting a repaired chip to vanish completely. It will not. What it will do is stop the damage spreading and restore the structural integrity of the glass.

What Is Included

A proper repair follows a set sequence and takes under an hour in most cases:

  • Assessment — confirming the damage is actually repairable by type, size and position
  • Cleaning — clearing dirt and moisture from inside the damage
  • Vacuum — drawing air out of the void so resin can fill it completely
  • Resin injection — filling under pressure
  • Curing — UV curing the resin to full hardness
  • Polishing — levelling the surface flush with the surrounding glass
  • Final check — confirming the repair has held and the glass is sound

What Is Not Included

Repair does not make damage invisible — a faint mark almost always remains, which is why repairs are not recommended directly in the driver’s line of sight. It does not address long cracks, edge damage or multiple damage points, all of which need windscreen replacement. It does not fix leaks or wind noise on undamaged glass, which is a windscreen resealing job. And it does not cover scratching or hazing, which is scratch removal from $110.

How to Tell If Yours Is Repairable

Broadly, repairable damage is small, contained, recent and outside your direct line of sight, and has not reached the edge of the glass. Damage that is spreading, longer than roughly the width of your hand, at the perimeter, or sitting directly in front of the driver generally is not. We assess on site before starting, and if it is not repairable we will say so rather than attempting it. See repair versus replacement for more detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the chip disappear after repair?

No. A repair restores structural integrity and greatly reduces visibility, but a faint mark usually remains. That is why repairs are not recommended directly in the driver line of sight.

How long does a repair take?

Usually under an hour, with no adhesive curing time to wait through afterwards. You can generally drive immediately.

What if the damage turns out not to be repairable?

We tell you on site before starting. Attempting a repair on unsuitable damage wastes your money and can make things worse.

Does a repair affect my windscreen strength?

A properly completed repair restores most of the structural integrity that the damage removed. An unrepaired chip is the weaker option.
