The development of modern car appearance is closely related to the development of glass technology. As early as more than 40 years ago, the front windshield of the car adopted a single-piece curved windshield, and gradually abandoned the flat windshield.
Today’s car windshields are generally made of a large curved surface as a whole, with a certain curvature up and down, left and right. This kind of curved glass is a product with very high technical requirements in terms of the processing process and the fitting of the assembly, because it involves many issues such as vehicle model, strength, heat insulation, and assembly.
Laminated glass refers to the use of a transparent adhesive plastic film attached between two or three layers of glass, which combines the strength of plastic and the hardness of glass, and increases the resistance of glass to shattering. Tempered glass refers to the quenching of ordinary glass to form a certain internal stress in the internal structure, thereby enhancing the strength of the glass.
When chipped or cracked, the glass will split into small pieces with blunt edges, which is not easy to cause injury to the occupants. The regional tempered glass is a new type of tempered glass. It has been specially treated so that when it is impacted and broken, the cracks of the glass can still maintain a certain clarity, ensuring that the driver’s field of vision is not affected.
At present, car windshields are mainly composed of laminated tempered glass and laminated area tempered glass, which can withstand strong impact force.
The front windshield of a car is a laminated glass. Sometimes, under the action of external force, such as in the event of an accident, the windscreen will be broken. At this time, if the crack is short, it can be repaired, while if the crack is long, it cannot be repaired and needs to be replaced.
Under normal circumstances, for a general 4s repair shop, it takes about four hours to replace a new front windshield, in which the windshield wipers and the cracked windshield must be removed first, which takes about 1 hour. And then they will clean up the old glass glue, and apply new glass glue. Finally they install the new glass, and let the glass stand for about 1 hour, waiting until the glass glue is completely dry.
Cleaning up a broken windshield and debris can be time-consuming. However, it doesn’t take long to actually install new glass. In fact, an experienced professional can usually complete a rear windshield replacement within an hour, and most of that time will be spent waiting for the urethane adhesive to cure so that the glass can be secured.
Since the windshield is replaced with glass glue, which is urethane adhesive, and the glue has a curing time, how long it takes to replace the windshield depends on the curing time for the windshield adhesives.
Some types of adhesive are quick-drying and will take about 1-2 hours, while some take about 6 hours. At present, the curing temperature of ordinary glue on the market is about 5-40 degrees, and the amount of time to achieve safe driving is after 24 hours, so it needs to be judged according to the quality of glass glue and seasonal factors. When it is winter, it generally needs more time to cure.
Generally speaking, after replacing the windshield, it is generally necessary to perform a rain test to check whether there is any water leakage. However, this is just a simple and fast rain test. Since the glass glue has a curing time, rain will affect its viscosity, resulting in poor fixation of the glass, easy loosening, and potential safety hazards. Therefore, it is usually not allowed to rain or wash the car within 3 days.
You should control the speed of the vehicle, no more than 60 kilometers, and avoid emergency braking.
The auxiliary fixed taps should be torn off after 2 days. It needs to be noted that the temperature must be above 5 degrees, if it is lower than this temperature, the time needs to be extended.
You also should avoid a bumpy road, as the glue is not cured and the glass is easy to move, driving one the bumpy road will cause air leakage and water leakage.
