If your windscreen has heating elements, the replacement must have them too — and this is one of the most common specification mistakes we see. Heated windscreens come in two forms: a heated wiper park strip at the base, which is by far the most common, and full-screen heating with fine wires through the glass. Fitting plain glass to a vehicle that had either leaves you with a feature that simply stops existing.
The heated wiper park is a narrow strip of heating element at the bottom of the screen, designed to stop wipers freezing to the glass and to clear the area they rest in. It is common on European vehicles and on cold-climate variants. Full-screen heating, sometimes branded as Quickclear or similar, runs fine conductive wires across the whole screen to clear frost quickly — less common in Australia but present on some imports and prestige models.

Sydney does not get hard frosts often, so some owners question whether heated glass is worth matching. Two reasons it is. First, on the western and southern fringes — around Penrith, Camden, the Blue Mountains foothills — winter mornings do produce frost, and a frozen wiper dragged across glass scratches it. Second, resale: a vehicle with a non-functioning factory feature is harder to sell and will be noticed by any buyer who checks.

Our starting prices are the same across greater Sydney, with no call-out fee:

When you book, give us the make, model, year and build month. Heated glass is usually a factory option rather than standard, so two identical-looking vehicles from the same year can differ. If you are unsure whether yours is heated, look for a fine band of slightly different texture at the base of the screen where the wipers rest, or check whether there is a dedicated windscreen heating button on the dash separate from the demister.

Look for a band of fine lines or slightly different texture at the base where the wipers park, and check for a dedicated windscreen heating button separate from the rear demister. If unsure, give us your make, model, year and build month and we will check the specification.
You can, but you permanently lose the feature — it cannot be retrofitted. Given the effect on resale and the scratching risk from frozen wipers, we would generally advise matching the original.
The fitting itself is comparable. The difference is the electrical connector at the glass edge, which needs to be reconnected and tested before we finish.
No. Rear demister elements are far more common and are baked into toughened rear glass. Heated windscreens use a different system in laminated glass and are much less common.
